Every week, I’ll be bringing you a comic book cover that I feel eclipses others out there—to the point I might just have to own it!
The BadAss Comic Book Cover for this week is for Cyber Force #1. Back in the early nineties, several of the best comic book pencilers of the day left their respective jobs at Marvel Comics and began their own publishing company. They wanted creative control and the financial freedom that would give. Image Comics was born. It became one of the important moments in the history of the medium and led to some amazing work. Spawn by Todd McFarlane was born. WildC.A.T.s by Jim Lee was born. The Savage Dragon by Erik Larsen was born. And of course, Cyberforce by Marc Silvestri formed.
Why do I love this cover though? It shows off Marc Silvestri’s talent in a montage that highlights the main characters of the newly re-launched series! Velocity stands petulantly. Ripclaw is ready for action, and Aphrodite sits nonchalantly, letting her prominent pistol in the middle of the cover speak for her. Love the cogs and wheels at the top. It is a fantastic cover, gritty, with the city in flames behind and evil on the left. Great balance for the amount of movement in the piece.
