Every week, I’ll be bringing you a comic book cover that I feel eclipses others out there—to the point I might just have to own it!
The BadAss Comic Book Cover for this week is for Batman #13. Gotta love artist Greg Capullo! He brings such great pencils to whatever project he is on. He has done arguably the best art for the New 52, DC Comics relaunch of their universe, and Batman and the other Gotham City characters have rarely looked better. In this case, Capullo and writer Scott Snyder have brought some new designs to familiar characters, making Gotham creepier, darker, and grittier.
Why do I love this cover though? The close-up. We look at the Joker and we can tell how manically, batshit crazy he is in this shot. From the teeth to the new face mask to the bulging eyeball that is filled with sociopath delight. The mirror focuses the observer in directly into that crazy personality. Is it a reflection of ourselves? Or just the Joker? What is he planning while he is applying his makeup? It draws the reader in and creates a mystery for the hardship that is about to come into Bruce Wayne’s life.
