Every week, I’ll be bringing you a comic book cover that I feel eclipses others out there—to the point I might just have to own it!
The BadAss Comic Book Cover for this week is for Amazing Spider-Man #691. Marvel Comics has gotten great and supporting its comic books with its movie line. It was apparent that, with the Hollywood release of The Amazing Spider-Man, that Marvel would take advantage of that publicity and tie-in the movie’s villain. The movie features the villainous Lizard, one of the stronger opponents for Peter Parker. Now the Lizard is now running through the comic book streets and sewers of New York City, fighting our web-crawler and wreaking havoc.
Why do I love this cover though? It’s the viewpoint! We look directly into the eye of the Lizard and see what he sees—a Spider-Man who is about to do battle. The perspective is wonderful too. If you look closely, the artist has placed the two opponents in the sewers—there is brick and pipes in the background around Spider-Man. The eye, being wide open, not only features the hero but shows how maddened the Lizard is. It’s a simple piece but the conflict that is about to ensue is evident in every line.
