The BadAss Comic Book Cover for this week is for Emerald City Comic Con Exclusive: Alex Ross. When I first moved to Seattle in the mid 90’s, the comic book show was a tiny affair with three rooms, three or four professionals visiting, and a pitiful dealer room that I think was smaller than my own collection. That has all changed. The Emerald City Comic Con has became one of the best comic book shows in the world, having moved to the Washington State Convention Center—which has dozens and dozens of huge rooms and far better facilities—and inviting the very best in the fields of movies and comic books. This year alone, they are welcoming such talent as Marc Silvestri, Greg Capullo, and dozens of other artists, inkers, and writers! Click HERE to see the entire list!
Why do I love this piece of artwork though? So much I don’t even know where to begin! First, it is an Alex Ross piece of artwork and with that comes a certain excellence. The use of movement, the blurring effect he uses. Awesome. The Seattle clouds he has painted are also very realistic; those who live here would recognize them over the Puget Sound in a heart beat. Love the use of the Space Needle. And of course, Crusaderette looks sexy as all get out! No one paints realistic women like Alex Ross. From a literary point of view, I love how he worked in the swoosh that is in the logo, having Crusaderette circle the Comic Con Space Needle! All in all, it just works—from movement to colors to design and angle. I can’t wait to get one of these at the Con.
