Every week, I’ll be bringing you a comic book cover that I feel eclipses others out there—to the point I might just have to own it!
The BadAss Comic Book Cover for this week is for The Incredible Hulk #5. Long have Bruce Banner and the Hulk hated one another, separate sides to the same raging coin. Now that they have been split apart, we say them face off against one another in a most unexpected way. The Hulk feeling responsible for Bruce’s change into a Dr. Moreau-type scientist; Bruce creating hundreds of Hulk-like creatures to go after his alter-ego. It creates an interesting story. And with While Portacio doing the pencils now, I’m a fan of this book even more.
Why do I love this cover though? It captures raw energy that’s about to explode. The Hulk looks like the Hulk should—fists born about to strike, neck taut, face pulled back in a snarl of anger. Bruce is the nerd scientist, struggling to survive in the midst of increasingly dire odds. Throw in a hottie Amanda von Doom, and I’m sold. What I like though is how all the energy in the art is driven to a single point—the exploding weapon in Bruce’s hands.
