Every week, I’ll be bringing you a comic book cover that I feel eclipses others out there—to the point I might just have to own it!
The BadAss Comic Book Cover for this week is for Amazing Spider-Man #678. I love future tales set in the Marvel universe. It’s always great fun to see my favorite characters in the future—where usually dystopian life is hard and death comes swiftly. My favorite, Days of Future Past, featured the X-Men. Now Spider-Man seems to be getting a quick, two-issue future story titled I Killed Tomorrow where New York has been destroyed and it’s the webslinger’s fault!
Why do I love this cover? It’s a simple piece that tells you a lot. Love how the Daily Bugle newspaper is drawn with the skyline of New York in the negative space. Love the rain pouring down, setting the miserable mood of the city. And I love Peter Parker’s hand reaching up, his Spider-Man costume shredded and bloodied, the superhero obviously reduced to crawling along the street.

Very nice pick. I’d love that as a poster.
I love it too. As I said, I love dystopia / time travel stories that involve the end of the world. So fun. That you have a Peter Parker — a man who has sworn the greatest of responsibilities — destroying New York… now that sounds like fun!
My husband just picked this up yesterday, think I’ll check it out. Have you seen the cover for Detective Comics #5? Batman/Penguin cover. Pretty sweet.
I love Tony Daniel’s work on Batman. And I really like the cover to issue #5. I am LOVING the cover for Detective Comics #8 though. Just an amazing piece!
Yeah, all of Tony Daniel’s covers for that run look pretty awesome. I’m a fan of dark, gritty Batman covers in general.
That’s why I’m digging Greg Capullo too. Man that guy can pencil.
