Every week, I’ll be bringing you a comic book cover that I feel eclipses others out there—to the point I might just have to own it!
The BadAss Comic Book Cover for this week is for Dark Tower: The Gunslinger #1. 2012 will see Stephen King’s Dark Tower reenter the book industry with the publication of The Wind Through the Keyhole, a novel that King has framed between books four and five. The first novel in the saga, The Gunslinger, has long been a cult favorite and for the last two years Marvel has been adapting it in the comic book medium. They’ve done a great job.
Now, in Dark Tower: The Gunslinger #1, the last gunslinger is confronted with the evils of the desert—without water and weakened by his ordeal of chasing the Man in Black.
Why do I love this cover though? It’s simplicity. The desert against man. The size of the sun, taking up the bulk of the cover, as it attempts to destroy the will of Roland. The swirl of dust. The red of the heat. The length of Roland’s shadow, stretching out in front of him, as weary as he is.
