DC Comics is beginning over.
At least for a time coming up later this summer, they are. After the events of the currently running storyline Flashpoint, DC Comics will reset all of its titles back to #1. That’s right. Dozens of titles having a new #1. Considering Action Comics just hit #900, it’s kind of a big deal.
But it’s not the first time they’ve done it. Remember Zero Hour?
Both DC Comics and Marvel Comics do this periodically. It’s great for publicity, it’s great to reset some continuity, it’s great to get new readers on board when 900 issues can seem daunting. It’s also always fun to have an event, and this is an event for DC Comics. For a number of reasons. I love some of the creative talent that is being included and the books they are working on. Greg Capullo on Batman? Yes please! Jim Lee drawing DC Comics best characters in Justice League? Yes please! Grant Morrison on Action Comics? Yes please!
On August 31st, DC Comics will launch Justice League #1 and thereafter the other #1s will be released every week.
I will be featuring more of this next month when I attend San Diego Comic Con, but in the meantime here are the three books I can’t wait for:

Greg Caullo said: “BATMAN–Page 1–Panel 1–Crime Alley. As I penciled the scene, I felt strange inside–like I’d returned home. But, I also felt that it wasn’t home. I was not in Spawn alley. I was in Gotham. Things are different around here.
And, so it begins.”
Greg Capullo said: “I’m finished with the layouts for Batman–all 24 pages. I think you’ll all be quite pleased with the art I’ve produced. This is going to be fun for all of us!”

I am a bit confused. Are they rebooting everything – starting with Superman as a baby on Krypton, and Bruce Wayne’s parents being killed – or are they literally just resetting the numbers for no reason?
