STAR WARS: KNIGHT ERRANT A New Era

STAR WARS: KNIGHT ERRANT A New Era

Writer John Jackson Miller, long known for his exciting and funny comic book series Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is venturing into new territory with his new adventure, Star Wars: Knight Errant. The Del Rey novel will be available on January 25, 2011 in paperback; however, the adventure begins in two weeks when Dark Horse comics publishes Star Wars: Knight Errant #1 written by Miller and illustrated by Federico Dallocchio and Micheal Atiyeh. The first story arc, Aflame, introduces us to a new female Jedi Knight, Kerra Holt. Dark Horse describes the series as such:

“More than one thousand years before Luke Skywalker, a dark age grips the galaxy as an ineffectual Republic abandons entire systems to Sith control. A newly knighted Jedi on her first mission, eighteen-year-old Kerra Holt has joined a band of Jedi volunteers traveling deep behind enemy lines, with no support from the Republic and little chance of survival. She thinks she is prepared for anything. She’s wrong.”

The Del Rey novel will tell it’s own story featuring Kerra Holt, and readers will not need to read the comic book or novel to enjoy the other. In anticipation of the soon to be released comic book, Miller posted a brief overview of this new Star Wars era on the Dark Horse blog this past Friday. “Knight Errant is set a thousand years before Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and a generation before the start of the Darth Bane novels. This period is one of the darkest for the Republic. Unable to maintain control of the Outer Rim, the Republic has ceded control of large swaths of the galaxy to the Sith. The Jedi are needed at home — but some are not content to leave the people of the Outer Rim to the mercy of the Sith. Kerra Holt is one such Jedi. Having evacuated Sith space as a child, Kerra has one driving impulse in life: returning home to take up the fight.”
